How to Innovate on Time

1:00 - 4:00PM on Tuesday, April 22 in 2002

Presented by Scott Berkun (Berkun Consulting). Two of the most difficult things in the universe are delivering complex work on time and developing innovative ideas that solve real problems. As a sure sign of our collective insanity, many of us willingly attempt both at the same time. This fun, interactive workshop explores different approaches for managing innovation on a schedule.

Scott is an excellent public speaker; very engaging. I enjyed the fact that he tried to get the audience more involved in the workshop. Also, he had some great ideas on innovating that I can take back to my company and definitely attempt to implement.

This was an extremely valuable workshop in that it highlighted the importance of working time into your work schedule to pause and think about what you can do to innovate your business (aka 'ideate'). The exercises were very helpful, and I imagine I'll use the inverse exercise frequently; the inverse exercise entails describing the worst example of your product that you can and logging the opposite of its attributes as features you'd like to implement. His pragmatism with regards to delivering your products on time was refreshing. Definitely a little firepower for when the boss gets on my case about projects being delayed or coming in a little late.

So often talks will throw around a lot of 'innovation' jargon with very little meaningful content. This workshop was the opposite of that, greatly exceeding my dulled expectations. I was able to draw a lot of parallels between the discussion and the challenges I encounter every day.

Very useful, practical info. Loved the 'imagine the worst case scenario' process.
