Presented by Joseph Smarr (Plaxo). “Who you know†is a key ingredient of a large number of socially enabled services; yet users are increasingly frustrated at having to re-establish relationships on every new site they visit. We’ll describe the social landscape today, the technologies that are changing what’s possible, and where the Social Web is headed.

A little pie in the sky, but I hope I get proved wrong! It would be phenomenal if social information was shared all over the web - Smarr is totally right about how annoying it is to have to re-enter my information over and over (and over and over) again. Whether companies will buy into everything he touched on and open up their valuable information is an open question. It seems to me that a lot of a social network's value is in its user metadata. Prior to this presentation I didn't see what value there would be for a site to share it's information across the web. But Joe made the interesting point that if I'm allowed to take my LinkedIn information anywhere, I'm going to spend that much more time making sure my LinkedIn account is super tight and cohesive. Anyways, really good talk with some really good ideas :)
Joseph was quite knowledgeable. He was able to summarize the frustration that many of us in the industry are feeling, that being trying to maintain Facebook / Twitter / Flickr / MySpace etc.

Joseph provides a great grounding in Data Portability. This is a fast moving space. There is lots still to do but it is obvious that change is happening quickly.
Great presentation delivered without a breath being taken! :)
