We’re blending computer game technology with animation technology to make Moviestorm easy enough for a complete novice to just pick up and create a short movie in 15 minutes. If they can play The Sims, they can make a movie with Moviestorm. On the other hand, we are also developing it for professionals to use in pre-vis, as an educational tool, or in business presentations.
We’re aiming to make Moviestorm the platform of choice for self-expression and low-cost animation. One day Moviestorm will be as popular as Word or Photoshop.
So far, we have an early version in the market, and we have around seven thousand beta testers. These range from school kids to senior citizens, from beginners to experienced animators, and we have a good mix of male and female. We even have some top Hollywood talent! We’ve built a community site where Moviestormers can discuss their work, find creative partners and showcase their movies.
Our business model for consumers is simple: we’re giving away the base product, and enough characters, costumes, sets, and animations to make a simple starter movie. Then we sell users add-on packs containing more characters, costumes, sets, and animations. We’re keeping the add-on price low – right now it is around ten dollars for a pack. Currently everything’s online, and we’re thinking of moving into retail in 2009.
