About: John Alderman’s work covers the dynamic intersections of technology, culture, and design. A 13-year veteran of the San Francisco new media and publishing industry, Alderman has witnessed some of its major developments firsthand, as a participant and journalist. Starting his career at Mondo 2000, he then became part of the team that launched the first commercial web site, HotWired. He was culture editor at Wired News, music and lifestyles editor at CNET, and is now senior content strategist at Avenue A | Razorfish.
Alderman’s Sonic Boom, which traced the tumultuous rise of online musical distribution, was a New York Times Notable Book, praised for being “smart and meticulous.” His recent Core Memory, a visual walk through computer history, was called by the New York Time’s Paper Cuts book blog as “possibly the best coffee table book this year” (2007).
A Japanese version of Core Memory was just published by O'Reilly Japan.
