About: Tony Wasserman is Director of the Software Management professional MS program at Carnegie Mellon West and Executive Director of its Center for Open Source Investigation (COSI). He is General Chairman of the 2009 Int'l. Conf. on Open Source Systems. Previously, Tony was VP of Bluestone Software (acquired by HP), responsible for its open source J2EE middleware toolkit for mobile devices. Before that, he was Founder and CEO of Interactive Development Environments, Inc. (IDE), developer of the innovative Software through Pictures multiuser modeling environment.

Prior to starting IDE, Tony was a Professor at the University of California, San Francisco, and a Lecturer in the Computer Science Division at UC Berkeley, where he and his research team developed and released the User Software Engineering tools under the BSD open source license in 1981. Dr. Wasserman earned a Ph.D. in Computer Sciences from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and a BA in Mathematics and Physics from the University of California, Berkeley. (Go Bears!) He is a Fellow of both ACM and IEEE.

Tony loves to travel and has been to almost 50 countries, including some that no longer exist. High on the list of unvisited countries for future trips are Cuba, Vietnam, South Africa, Peru, and Morocco.

Politically, Tony is dedicated to regime change in the US, including the restoration of the principles embedded in the Bill of Rights.
