• David Rivas is current Vice President of Technology Management for S60 Software in Nokia’s Device business. In this role David must drive the competitiveness of S60 software which powers Nokia’s most advanced and profitable devices, with organizational responsibilities for Product Management, Strategy, Business Development, Partner Management, Architecture Management, Standards and Open Source Software, and Innovation Management.

• David joined Nokia in August 2007 as Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for Software Platforms.

• Prior to joining Nokia, David has held various management and technical positions including CTO of startup a la Mobile, as well as spending almost 12 years at Sun Microsystems. When David left Sun he was CTO of the software client services business. In that role David worked closely with the wireless industry to advance next-generation mobile data services. His many achievements in this arena include, as part of the original Java ME team, driving adoption of Java ME into over 1Billion devices, the acquisition of Pixo and initiatives to help customers such as Vodafone define their mobile data services systems architecture. He also managed advanced client platform technology development and was designed a few of the original Java multimedia technologies including for TV and next generation DVD products such as Blue-Ray and DVB-MHP.

• Earlier in his career, David was a sound recording engineer with credits in the music, television and film industries. He holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering from the University of California, San Diego.
