is Java losing?
Posted Sun Apr 20 11:34:23 -0700 2008Very interesting article titled "Java is losing the battle for the modern web." http://tinyurl.com/5ogm9k
I'm a Java programmer since 1999, and I can tell you that most of the frameworks for build Web Sites in Java are not easy to use. On the flip side, I can tell you that Java is an awesome environment for building high performance backends that serve data through XML or JSON Web Services.
The most recent Java framework I used for developing web pages was Wicket. I integrated my open source Shades database framework into their examples a while back, but have not played with it much since then.

This would be interesting to talk about. I've been programming in Java since it was in alpha 2 and I'd also like to see better web frameworks. I think the JSON code I've found isn't all it could be, but don't have the time to "upgrade" it. I've been messing with Dojo for the front end, getting JSON from the server. I'm going to be in the Flex/Air bootcamp on Tuesday, so I'm hoping that might be another alternative for a nice crisp GUI.
I am seeing more and more demand for Java, from companies initially looking for .net or php... so business-wise, at least from my stand point, java is not losing anything...
